HP Sign & Display Training includes a Backlit Displays lesson. This independent BOOTH LIGHTS guide helps print shops choose internal LED components for their own printed-film lightboxes. These products are display lighting, not HP printer parts, film or course registration.
Plan the light source behind the printed film
Measure the illuminated area, cabinet depth and distance between LEDs and the final face. Check the actual printed film and any diffuser together in the intended enclosure. Choose perimeter or rear placement from the tested result rather than copying a fabric-frame layout.
Choose the light source for the display
- DC24V linkable edge-lit bars: 212mm/9W, 319mm/14W or 480mm/20W for modular lightbox builds.
- 12W dual-CCT rear-backlight bar: DC24V, 1320lm, 180° beam and 3-wire JST; select the CCT pair and separate control.
- 20W DC24V rigid lightbox bar: 470mm, 2200lm ±10%, for tested indoor SEG and illuminated-sign layouts.
- 7W DC24V compact lightbox bar: 200mm, 770lm, 200×23×16mm body for short frame sections. Check the Molex 5557 / Mini-Fit Jr. connector family, mating pinout and fit before replacement.
Can these LEDs backlight any printed poster?
No. The finished face must transmit light for a backlit image. Ask your print supplier for the intended backlit material and test the print, ink coverage and diffuser as an assembly. More LED power cannot turn an opaque poster or backing board into a light-transmitting face.
Should I use frame-edge bars or rear-backlight bars?
Compare the 20W rigid edge-lit bar’s 10°×40° optics with the 12W dual-CCT rear bar’s 180° beam. The rear bar faces the graphic from behind; the edge bar directs light inward from the frame perimeter. Test face distance and coverage with the actual film before fixing quantity and positions.
Does DC24V mean the bars share the same connector and controls?
No. The dual-CCT rear bar has a 3-wire JST connection and needs a compatible switch or controller for its two white channels. That is not interchangeable by voltage alone with a fixed-white bar connector. Verify pinout, polarity, load and the selected CCT pair; the rear-bar supply and controls are not included.
Before ordering
LED Modules illuminate a printed face inside a lightbox; they are not complete signs. Confirm connector polarity, driver capacity, thermal conditions and connection limits. Check the selected bar length and product pack quantity. Do not assume outdoor or moisture suitability from a retrofit application.
Send cabinet photos, internal dimensions, frame drawings, the existing driver specification and proposed product links through our contact page to discuss a trial selection.
