Most products at trade shows are illuminated to be visible. Jewelry and fashion need to be illuminated to look accurate and desirable. There's a difference.
Jewelry reflects and refracts light — the sparkle of a diamond or the sheen of a gold chain is entirely dependent on the light source. A low-CRI light with an uneven spectrum makes gemstones look flat and metals look dull. A high-CRI light with a smooth spectrum makes the same pieces look alive.
Fashion fabrics have color that needs to match the brand's reference standard. A red dress that photographs as crimson needs to look crimson under your booth lights, not orange or burgundy. Color-shifted lighting creates a disconnect between what customers see in your look book and what they see in your booth.
Color Temperature: What to Choose for Jewelry vs. Fashion
Jewelry
Warm white (2800–3200K) is the traditional choice for jewelry display. It enhances the warmth of yellow gold, rose gold, and amber gemstones. It makes diamonds appear warmer and more inviting rather than cold and clinical.
However, warm light can make white gold and platinum look slightly yellow. If your collection is predominantly white metals or colorless diamonds, neutral white (4200–4500K) is a better choice — it renders white metals accurately without the warm cast.

Neutral white (4200–4500K) is the most reliable choice for fashion. It renders fabric colors accurately across the widest range of hues without introducing a warm or cool cast that shifts specific colors.
Warm white works well for lifestyle and heritage fashion brands where a warm, inviting atmosphere is part of the brand identity. Cool white works for sportswear, technical apparel, and brands with a clean, modern aesthetic.
The key rule: your booth lighting should match the lighting used in your product photography. If your lookbook was shot under 4500K studio lights, use 4500K in your booth. Consistency between the image and the product in hand builds trust.
CRI Requirements for Jewelry and Fashion
For jewelry: CRI ≥ 95 is worth the investment. The difference between CRI 90 and CRI 95 is visible in gemstone sparkle and metal sheen. If you're displaying fine jewelry at a premium price point, this is not the place to cut costs.
For fashion: CRI ≥ 90 is sufficient for most applications. CRI 95 is worth considering if your collection includes colors that are particularly sensitive to light spectrum shifts — saturated reds, purples, and teals are the most common problem colors under lower-CRI sources.

Avoiding Glare in Jewelry Booths

- Position lights at an angle, not directly overhead — Light coming from a 30–45° angle creates sparkle in gemstones without creating a direct reflection that obscures the piece.
