Schuko-to-C13 Cords for Exhibitions: Check the Plug and Earth

A Schuko-to-C13 cord can connect a compatible C14-equipped fixture to a suitable earthed outlet. It is not a universal cable for Europe. Check both ends, the fixture’s input requirements and the electrical service ordered for the stand.

Identify the plug and socket separately

Schuko refers to the protective-contact system with side earthing contacts. A CEE 7/7 hybrid plug has side earth contacts plus an opening for the earth pin of a compatible type E socket. CEE 7/7 identifies the plug, not a combined plug-and-socket standard. It is different from an unearthed Europlug; appearance alone does not prove an earth connection.

Confirm the actual distribution outlet

Ask the event’s electrical contractor which outlet will be supplied, its voltage, permitted load and connection requirements. Do not infer this from the country or venue name. The UK and Switzerland use different common plug systems. In Denmark, a CEE7 plug can fit a Danish type K socket without transferring protective earth; obtain a suitable approved connection rather than assuming physical fit is enough.

Check the whole cord and fixture

The C13 device connector must match the fixture’s C14 inlet. Check the exact cord’s voltage and current ratings, conductor size, insulation, strain relief and required approvals. A plug’s rating does not establish the rating of the entire cord. The cord does not convert voltage. Retain the protective-earth connection where the equipment requires it.

Measure the cable route

The BOOTH LIGHTS C13 cord lists a 3 m EU/Schuko variant. Verify the chosen variant and ask for its exact plug and rating details. Measure the permitted route to the fixture; 3 m is a product length, not a recommendation for every booth. Avoid tension, pinching and trip hazards.

Before packing

  • Record the outlet and fixture model, and confirm compatibility with the contractor.
  • Inspect the complete cord and test the installation with the specified equipment.
  • Pack compatible spares according to the number of connections and replacement needs.
  • Carry the model-specific documentation requested by the event.

See the C13 compatibility guide or send us the inlet photo and electrical-service details.
