How Many Arm Lights for a 10×10 Trade Show Booth?

A 10×10 ft trade show booth usually starts with two arm lights, but two is not the correct answer for every display. The useful question is whether those fixtures can cover the full graphic width without leaving the center or lower corners visibly darker.

These numbers are planning estimates, not venue rules. Booth construction, graphic material and surrounding hall lighting can change the result.

Why two 25W lights are a common starting point

Two adjustable fixtures provide something a single central light cannot: beam overlap. Mounting one light toward each side of the backwall lets you aim both beams inward and reduce the hard shadow created by a single direction of light. It also gives you more control when a counter, monitor or product blocks part of the beam.

When a third light is worth adding

  • The graphic background is black, navy or another light-absorbing color.
  • A monitor, shelf or tall product creates a shadow in the center.
  • The booth includes a counter or demonstration area that needs its own aiming point.
  • The two outer fixtures cannot overlap without producing glare at visitor eye level.
  • The venue is bright enough that the booth graphics look flat under only two fixtures.

25W versus 50W for a 10×10 booth

A higher-output 50W arm light can reduce the number of mounting positions, but it does not automatically replace two lower-output fixtures. A single 50W beam may be bright in the center while the outer portions of the graphic remain uneven. Two 25W fixtures may provide better distribution because they can be aimed from different positions.

Five-minute test before the show

  1. Install the booth and graphics at the planned mounting height.
  2. Turn off unrelated room lights if possible, then view the booth from the aisle.
  3. Check the center, both lower corners and any area behind a monitor or shelf.
  4. Photograph the booth straight on; uneven coverage is often easier to notice in the photo.
  5. Re-aim the fixtures before adding another light. Add the third fixture only when repositioning cannot fill the dark zone.
