Lighting for Inline Trade Show Booths
Lighting for Inline Trade Show Booths
Inline booths — the most common booth type at trade shows — have one open side facing the aisle and a solid backwall. Lighting them correctly means illuminating the backwall graphic evenly while also highlighting products in the foreground. Here’s exactly how to do it.
⚡ Inline Booth Lighting at a Glance
- 10×10 inline: 2–4 lights, 25W each
- 10×20 inline: 4–6 lights, 35W or 50W each
- Mounting position: Top rail of backwall, angled 30–45° downward
- Best color temp: 4500K neutral white for most graphics
- Certification: ETL or UL listed required at most US venues
What Makes Inline Booths Different to Light
Unlike island booths, inline booths have a defined back wall and a single visitor-facing side. This creates two distinct lighting challenges: (1) illuminating the backwall graphic without hot spots or shadows, and (2) lighting the foreground — products, counters, or demo stations — without creating glare toward visitors in the aisle.
The solution is a two-zone approach: arm lights mounted on the top rail for the backwall, and secondary arm lights or flood lights angled toward the foreground product zone.
Two Lighting Zones for Inline Booths
Zone 1: Backwall / Graphic
Mount arm lights on the top rail, spaced evenly, angled 30–45° toward the graphic. Use 25W–50W depending on booth width. Goal: even illumination with no hot spots.
Zone 2: Foreground / Products
Use secondary arm lights or flood lights angled toward shelving, counters, or demo stations. The 21W linkable arm light works well here — daisy-chain multiple units from one outlet.

💡 Step-by-Step: Setting Up Inline Booth Lighting
- Mount lights on the top rail of your backwall structure, evenly spaced
- Angle each light 30–45° downward toward the graphic surface — avoid pointing directly at visitors
- Space lights evenly: one light per 4–5 ft of backwall width
- Add foreground lights if you have shelving or a demo counter — angle toward products, not visitors
- Test before the show: check for hot spots, shadows, and glare from the aisle perspective
- Bring spare bulbs or a backup light — inline booths have no redundancy if a light fails
