Display-light clamps and mounting adapters: a visual selection guide
The overview below contains 12 accessory forms in 5 broad families. Some grip a support directly; others provide the interface between the lamp base and another bracket or profile. Identify the support shape and the lamp connection together to choose a useful starting point.
1. Understand the five families

The word universal is used for some adjustable clamps. Treat it as a prompt to check the listed surfaces, dimensions and connection method. A round tube, thin panel edge and grooved exhibition profile can each need a different contact arrangement.
2. Follow both sides of a slide or profile connection
Think of the assembly as support → mounting accessory → lamp base → aiming joint. Each connection has a job. A compatible support-side clip does not, by itself, establish that the light's base can slide into or bolt onto it.
- For a slide-on shoe: compare the rail width, step height, engaged length and insertion direction. Identify the specified stop or locking feature.
- For a profile plate: record the complete channel section, fixing positions and how the plate is retained. A visible hole does not establish a threaded connection.
- For forward and reverse adapters: choose the orientation that seats correctly while leaving room for the light, knob and cable. These are dedicated profile choices; confirm the drawing for the actual frame.
Check engagement with the real parts before buying a complete stand set. A side view and an end-on view usually communicate much more than the frame's brand name alone.
3. Compare round-tube and flat-edge gripping
Round tubes: measure outside diameter, including any coating or sleeve, and record the usable straight section. Check how the jaw contacts the curved surface and how the assembly is kept from rotating under the light's arm.
Flat edges and rectangular profiles: measure the dimension actually captured between the jaws, the available engagement area and nearby lips or decorations. Confirm that the contact faces sit as intended and that the knob can turn without striking the frame.
4. Record the measurements that answer the fit question
- Support: identify a round tube, flat edge, rectangular profile, grooved track or dedicated pop-up brace. Photograph the section with a ruler or dimensioned sketch.
- Grip: record the captured thickness or outside diameter, usable contact area, reach and clearance around the tightening mechanism.
- Track: record the slot mouth, internal cavity, lips and whether a block can be inserted from an accessible end.
- Fixture interface: photograph the lamp base from below and the side. Record a sliding profile, threaded connection, bolt pattern or mounting pin as applicable.
- Fasteners and retention: confirm thread, pitch, engagement, hole spacing and the specified locking method. Check which bolts or other small parts are supplied.
- Complete assembly: include fixture weight, arm reach, intended orientation, support capacity and cable route in the stand builder's review.
Keep the selected model's installation instructions with the plan. ETC's luminaire manual usefully treats the fixture-side clamp connection, support-side grip and aiming lock as separate checks; its tightening values apply to that equipment. For a mounting plate, clear clip or other pictured form without an exact catalogue match, send its measurements and the lamp-base photographs for a fit check. Confirm availability or custom-part feasibility before building it into the purchase list.
6. Choose the light and keep a repeatable mounting record
Once the support interface is understood, compare light output, CCT, arm reach, input and plug. The fixture options below include fixed-CCT and switchable-CCT choices. Check their selected mounting arrangement and included contents rather than assuming that an accessory is bundled with every light.
For a retrofit, include the existing light's base photographs and dimensions. For a new stand, agree the light and mounting accessory together. Some accessories are sold in packs, so check the selected pack quantity alongside the number of fixtures.
Record the approved fixture/adapter combination, measured frame section, fasteners, retention, arm direction and cable route. Photograph the finished arrangement so a touring team can reproduce it at the next event. Recheck the support and installation requirements when the stand configuration changes.
What’s the Difference: Clip-On vs Clamp-On?
Clip-on and clamp-on are search terms for different hardware arrangements. A screw clamp, spring clip and system-specific adapter can require different frame profiles. Choose the exact fixture and fitting from their stated dimensions; these terms do not establish compatibility.
