Choosing an LED module is not only about wattage, brightness or colour temperature. The connector also needs to match the power cable and wiring harness inside your light box. Getting that detail right makes assembly, replacement and repeat ordering easier.
BOOTH LIGHTS LED modules can be supplied with three regular connection options: DC barrel connectors, 2-pin locking connectors and inline plug connectors. Other connector types can be requested as a custom configuration. Check the selected product's standard connection, then contact us if your project needs a different option.
This guide explains the common English names, shows the three designs and helps you choose a connection for SEG fabric light boxes, illuminated signs and exhibition displays.
Three LED module connector options at a glance

1. DC barrel connector
A round DC power plug and socket. Match the barrel dimensions and polarity to the existing connection.

2. 2-pin locking connector
A keyed plug-and-receptacle pair with a latch for a matching two-contact harness.

3. Inline plug connector
A separate wire-to-wire connection style, listed on our product pages as a 2-pin plug-in connection.
Start with the connector you need to mate with. Send us a clear photo of both the housing and the contact face. These photos show the available designs; they do not establish the dimensions, polarity or current rating of your installation.
| Connection option | Best starting point | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| DC barrel connector | An existing round DC plug or socket | Outer and inner diameters, insertion length, polarity and electrical rating |
| 2-pin locking connector | A matching keyed, latched two-contact harness | Housing shape, contact spacing, latch position, mating part and pin assignment |
| Inline plug connector | An existing matching inline lightbox harness | Mating geometry, populated contacts, polarity and cable arrangement |
1. DC barrel connectors: match the plug and socket
DC barrel connector is the common name for this round, coaxial power connection. For an inquiry, “DC power plug and socket” is clearer than simply “DC connector” or “male/female connector.”
Choose this option when the existing power lead or module harness uses a matching barrel connection. Check the outer diameter, inner diameter and insertion length. Two plugs can look almost identical while using different dimensions, and the connection's polarity must also match.
For a module example, explore our 10W DC Plug LED Lightbox Bar, which uses DC sockets at both ends. For different module lengths, compare the 3W/6W/9W Modular DC Plug LED Bars. Use each product's connection and wiring requirements when planning the system.
2. 2-pin locking connectors: identify the mating housing
The second option uses a white keyed housing and retaining latch. On some BOOTH LIGHTS product pages, you will see the terms “5557 plug,” “Molex 5557” or “Mini-Fit Jr. 2-pin.” For this guide, we use 2-pin locking connector (Mini-Fit Jr.–style) as the descriptive name.
Mini-Fit Jr. is a named connector family. A family name or a similar-looking shell does not prove the exact manufacturer or guarantee a matching connection. Compare the housing, contact spacing, latch and pin assignment, and have us confirm the required mating part before ordering.
Product examples include the 10W Edge-Lit LED Module and the 8W Corner LED Module, whose current product descriptions identify this connector format. The corner module provides a compact supplementary light source where the tested main layout needs extra coverage.
3. Inline plug connectors: use the existing lightbox harness as your reference
The third option is a 2-wire inline plug connector. Our product descriptions call this a “2-pin plug-in connection.” The term describes the supplied connection option; it does not identify a universal connector standard.
Keep this option distinct from the locking connector above. Compare the contact face, housing shape and mating arrangement against the existing lightbox harness. A supplier nickname or a two-wire cable alone is not enough to identify a compatible connector.
To compare module formats with this listed connection, see the 7W Side-Lit LED Lightbox Module and the 12W/18W LED Modules for Fabric Lightboxes. Confirm the chosen connector, mounting arrangement and available cable space with your frame.
Five checks before choosing a connector
- Mating fit: compare the actual connector and its counterpart, including dimensions, contact positions and any keying or latch.
- Module voltage: confirm the module and power supply requirements. The products linked above use DC24V; a plug's appearance does not establish voltage compatibility.
- Polarity and pin assignment: verify how positive and negative connect through the complete harness. Wire colour is a useful reference, but does not replace a confirmed pinout.
- Branch load: check the load passing through each connector and cable, not only the wattage of one module. Connector type alone does not determine how many modules can be linked.
- Lead length and routing: allow enough cable to reach the next connection without tension, and check the wire-exit direction and clearance inside the frame.
What does “3–6.5 cm cable length” mean? On products that list this range, it describes the supplied cable lead length. It is not connector pitch, housing size or a dimension shared by every module. Confirm the cable length on the specific product, or request a different length for your project.
Choosing for a new build or a replacement
For a replacement module, start with photos of the existing module, connector and mating cable. This gives us a useful reference for checking the complete connection.
For a new lightbox build, choose the module format, power arrangement and wiring harness together. Standardising the selected connection within a confirmed system can simplify assembly and future servicing. Test the actual frame, graphic and wiring layout before fixing the production configuration.

Need a matching connector or a custom configuration?
BOOTH LIGHTS offers the three regular connection options shown above, and other connector configurations can be requested. Availability depends on the selected module, technical requirements, order quantity and production feasibility.
Send us the module product link, a photo of the mating connector, any connector measurements, supply voltage, required cable length, wire-exit direction and project quantity. We can check the standard option or assess a custom connector and lead arrangement before you order.

LED module connector FAQ
Are the three connector types interchangeable?
No. Match the connector and its counterpart, then confirm the dimensions, contact arrangement, polarity and electrical requirements. A similar appearance does not establish compatibility.
Does a 2-pin connector mean the module uses 24V?
No. The contact count does not define the operating voltage. Check the selected module's specification and power-supply requirements.
Can I request a different connector or a longer lead?
Yes, a custom configuration can be evaluated. Send the required connector, cable length, module product link and quantity so we can confirm feasibility and the available arrangement.
How do I identify a connector when I do not know its name?
Send a clear photo of the contact face, the housing and latch, the mating cable and the original module. Add measured dimensions if available. Photos and measurements are more useful than a supplier nickname alone.
