Replacing halogen booth lights with LED can reduce power demand and routine lamp changes. The useful comparison is between complete fixtures that light the same display adequately, rather than between wattages alone.
Power and heat
Compare total input power, light output and beam distribution at your actual mounting distance. Lower wattage does not guarantee enough light on a graphic. Check the organizer’s electrical charges: a lower load may not reduce a fixed connection fee. Halogen lamps become very hot; LED housings and drivers also need cooling. Follow each model’s clearances, let equipment cool before packing, and confirm the venue’s rules for either technology.
Color and beam control
Halogen generally produces warm light with high CRI relative to its reference source. LED models offer different color temperatures and color rendering; adjustable white is a specific feature, not a property of every LED. CRI alone does not establish identical color appearance. Compare samples on your fabrics, graphics and products at similar color temperatures. Check reflections and glare from visitor positions as well as brightness.
Lifetime and repairs
Read the manufacturer’s lifetime definition and operating conditions. LED light output can decline over time, and a driver or connection can fail before the stated lifetime. A lifetime rating is not a warranty. Confirm whether the lamp, driver or whole fixture can be replaced, what parts remain available, and what spare equipment you will carry.
Keep, retrofit or replace?
An existing halogen system may remain useful if its condition, light quality and venue approval meet your needs. An LED replacement bulb must match the fixture’s permitted lamp type, base, voltage, dimensions and thermal requirements. Verify transformer and dimmer compatibility for the exact combination; physical fit is insufficient. Use an approved replacement or have a qualified installer assess the system.
