How to Daisy-Chain Booth Lights: Installation Steps and Cable Routing

If you've ever spent 20 minutes untangling power cables behind a display stand, you already know why daisy chaining matters.

The idea is simple: instead of running a separate power cable from the wall to each light, you connect the lights to each other in a line. One cable in, one cable out, all the way down the chain. One wall outlet. Done.

Here's how to actually do it.

First, check if your lights support it

Not every booth light can be daisy chained. You need a light with a DC output port — that's the port you use to feed power into the next light. If your light only has a power input and nothing else, it's not designed for chaining.

The setup, step by step

1. Mount everything first

Get all your lights clamped and positioned before you start connecting cables. It's a lot easier to run cables between lights that are already in place. If you wire first and adjust later, you'll just be redoing it.

2. Plug the first light into power

The power adapter goes into the first light only. That's the only connection to the wall. Everything else runs light-to-light.

3. Connect light to light

Take the DC output port on light #1 and connect it to the DC input on light #2. Then output on #2 to input on #3, and so on. Push each connector in firmly — a loose connection is the most common reason one light in a chain doesn't turn on.

4. Route the cables behind the display

Run cables along the back of your frame or banner stand. Use clips or velcro to keep them flat against the structure. This takes maybe five extra minutes and makes a big difference in how the booth looks from the front.

5. Power on and check

Turn on the power and walk the chain. All lights should be the same brightness. If one is dim or flickering, check the connection at that point — push it in again and see if it fixes it.

How many lights can you chain?

For BOOTH LIGHTS 21W and 25W arm lights, the limit is 10 units per chain. Past that, you'll start seeing voltage drop — the lights at the end of the chain will be noticeably dimmer than the ones at the start.

If you need more than 10 lights, just start a second chain from a second outlet.

A few things that go wrong

Mixing different light models. Different products run on different DC voltages. Connecting them in the same chain can cause failures or uneven brightness. Stick to one product line per chain.

Going over the chain limit. It's tempting to push it, but the dimming at the end of a long chain is obvious to visitors. Stay within the limit.

Cables across the floor. Always route cables behind the display, never across walkways. It's a safety issue and it looks bad.

Is it worth getting linkable lights?

If you exhibit more than once or twice a year, yes. The time savings on setup alone are significant. And the cleaner cable management makes the whole booth look more put-together — which matters more than most exhibitors realize.

Common questions

Can I mix lights from different brands in one chain?

No. Different brands use different voltages and connector types. Even if the plug fits, the voltage mismatch can damage the lights or cause uneven output.

Do I need a bigger power adapter for a longer chain?

The adapter for the first light needs to handle the total wattage of the whole chain. For example, 5 × 25W lights = 125W total. Check the adapter rating before you chain more than a few lights.

What if one light in the chain doesn't turn on?

Check the DC connection going into that light. Push it in firmly. If it still doesn't work, try swapping the cable — occasionally a cable is the issue, not the light.

How do I know if my lights are linkable?

Look for two DC ports on the light body — one in, one out. If there's only one port, the light isn't designed for chaining.

Can I chain lights across different parts of a large booth?

Yes, as long as you stay within the 10-unit limit and the cables can reach. Use longer DC extension cables if needed.
