IEC C7, C8 and C13: Match the Correct Cord to Your Booth Light

C7 and C8 are mating parts: C7 is the cable connector and C8 is the equipment inlet. A C13 cable connector mates with a C14 inlet. Choose a replacement cord from the actual inlet and equipment instructions, rather than the light's wattage or a connector nickname.

Identify both sides of the connection

Designation Where it belongs Contacts and protective earth
C7 Cord end for a compatible C8 inlet Two recessed contacts; no protective-earth contact
C8 Equipment inlet for a compatible C7 cord Two pins; no protective-earth contact
C13 Cord end for a compatible C14 inlet Three recessed contacts, including protective earth

The common C7/C8 profile resembles a figure eight. Polarized variants also exist, so match the exact profile and markings; never force a connector. A C13 designation does not mean automatic locking. Any retaining or locking accessory must suit the specified connection.

Check more than the shape

  1. Photograph the inlet, its marking and the equipment nameplate. Identify whether the inlet is on the light or a separate power supply, and distinguish mains input from a DC connection.
  2. Confirm the equipment's required supply voltage and frequency. A different cord or plug adapter does not convert voltage.
  3. Use a manufacturer-approved cord set with suitable current, voltage and temperature ratings, length and destination plug. Ratings depend on the approved component and application; a connector family name alone is insufficient.
  4. Preserve the equipment's required protective earth through the complete cord and supply. C7/C8 has no earth contact; do not use a two-wire arrangement to bypass an earth requirement. Determine protection requirements from the equipment marking and manual.

Check linking and condition separately

An IEC input connector does not establish that lights can be linked. Follow the exact model's declared linking function, approved cables and limits, together with the venue's power arrangements. Before use, inspect cables and connectors for damage or loose parts; remove defective items from service.

Order the complete compatible kit

Send the supplier the exact model, connector photos, event country, required cord length and installation date. Ask which cord and any retaining accessory are included, and confirm replacement availability before travel. Custom connector options require model-specific confirmation. Contact BOOTH LIGHTS with these details.

For examples of the mating designations, see SCHURTER's C8 inlet and listed C7 cords and C14 inlet and listed C13 connectors. These component examples do not establish the connector or approval of a particular BOOTH LIGHTS fixture.
