Arm Light Placement for Booth Graphics: Height, Angle and Spacing

Buying the right booth light is only half the job.

The position of the fixture determines where the light actually goes.

An LED arm light can produce excellent illumination, but if it is mounted too far forward, too close to the wall, or aimed incorrectly, parts of the display may still appear dark.

Start With the Display, Not the Light

Before installing your arm lights, identify the surfaces that need attention. These may include:

  • Printed graphics
  • Product shelves
  • Demonstration areas
  • Counters
  • Brand logos
  • Product displays

Then position each fixture according to the area it needs to illuminate.

Mount Above the Display

For wall graphics and vertical displays, mounting the light above the display is usually the simplest starting point.

The adjustable arm allows the head to be aimed downward and toward the graphic. This creates a more direct lighting path and helps highlight the printed surface.

Avoid Aiming Everything Straight Down

One common mistake is pointing every fixture vertically downward.

This can illuminate the floor and top surfaces while leaving vertical graphics darker.

Instead, angle the fixture toward the actual display surface.

Space Fixtures According to Coverage

Do not automatically space fixtures according to booth dimensions.

Two different fixtures may cover very different areas. A long linear LED display light, for example, can spread light across a wider section of a display than a compact spotlight.

This is one reason fixture shape matters as much as wattage when selecting trade show booth lights.

Check the Booth From Visitor Height

After installing the fixtures, step away from the booth. Look at it from approximately the same height as an approaching visitor.

Check:

  • Are there dark sections?
  • Are graphics evenly illuminated?
  • Are products receiving enough light?
  • Are fixtures creating distracting glare?
  • Are people casting shadows onto products?

This simple test can reveal problems that are difficult to see while standing underneath the lights.
