Lighting Tile, Stone and Building-Material Trade Show Displays

Choose lighting by the actual sample surface. Opaque tile needs light on the front; a translucent stone sample may also suit backlighting after a test. Plan the viewing positions first so buyers can see color, pattern and texture without looking through a reflected light source.

Match the method to the material

Material Method to test What to inspect
Matte or textured ceramic, brick and porcelain Front lighting; compare broad coverage with light from the side Relief, shadows, grout lines and color
Polished tile or stone Front lighting from positions outside the main reflection path Pattern visibility from standing and seated visitor positions
Translucent onyx, alabaster or thin stone Sample-tested backlighting, with optional front lighting Transmission, veins, LED points and dark joins
Countertops and sample tables Lighting that preserves hand and sample visibility Shadows from visitors and glare while comparing samples

Control reflections before adding power

Move around a polished panel at visitor height. If the lamp reflection obscures the pattern, change its position or aim and retest. A fixed 30–45° angle cannot guarantee a glare-free result: the panel orientation and viewing angle also matter. More lamps can create more reflections. On textured surfaces, side lighting may reveal relief but also exaggerate shadows; compare it with broader illumination.

Compare CCT with the final collection

Test warm and neutral settings on cream, terracotta or wood-look samples, and neutral or cool settings on white and grey samples. These are comparisons, not required kelvin values by material. Check adjacent samples, printed labels and grout with the hall lights on. CRI 90+ can help shortlist lights, but the actual finish and color-rendering data still need review.

Backlighting requires a sample and a power plan

The 480×240mm flexible stone backlight panel currently offers fixed-white 24W/288-LED and dual-channel tunable-white 48W/576-LED versions. Both use DC24V; tunable white also requires a compatible CCT controller. Check the selected accessory bundle.

Test the actual stone thickness and cavity depth for visible LED points, uneven brightness and color changes. Plan ventilation, mounting, wiring and service access. Read the stone and countertop backlighting guide before scaling up.

Compare external display lights

Before the show

  1. Trial-fit mounts and confirm their approved load and orientation.
  2. Inspect the full collection at visitor height under the venue lighting.
  3. Record CCT, positions and power requirements; do not select quantity from booth width alone.
  4. For Cersaie, TISE or Coverings, verify current event requirements and the exact product documents.
