Clamp-On Graphic Lighting: Fit, Aim and Power

How to Light Exhibition Graphics: A Complete Guide to Clamp-On Display Lighting

A clamp-on exhibition light is useful only when its mount fits the frame and its beam reaches the printed surface. A clamp describes the attachment, not a promise of universal compatibility or uniform lighting.

Check the frame before choosing the clamp

  • Profile size and shape: measure width, depth and accessible gripping surfaces. A stated jaw opening alone does not confirm a secure fit.
  • Structure and load: check the display system’s permitted load and the mounting instructions. Include the lamp, arm and any attached hardware.
  • Clearance: leave room for graphics, fabric channels, hinges and neighbouring fixtures. Do not clamp onto a removable graphic or obstruct its tensioning system.
  • Reach: confirm that the head can illuminate the target without protruding into circulation space.

Protect finishes only as the mount manufacturer permits. Improvised packing can change grip. Tighten using the specified method; extra force is not a substitute for a suitable clamp.

Compare the light distribution separately

The LED Graphic Panel Spotlight has an integrated adjustable aluminium clamp. Its published specifications are 12W, 1,200 lm, CRI 90+, a 68° beam, DC12V and dimensions of 480 × 140 × 40 mm. A matched adapter is included.

The 25W LED Display Arm Light is specified at 3,250 lm with a 120° beam and mounting hardware including an aluminium clamp and sliding inserts. The broader nominal beam is a comparison point, not proof that one light covers an entire wall. Check frame fit, setback and actual illumination.

For translucent graphics in a purpose-built light box, consider internal lighting instead. The 13W edge-lit LED bar is currently specified at 1,430 lm with a 15° × 60° lens and DC24V input; it requires the correct external driver and internal mounting layout.

Install, then judge from the visitor’s position

  1. Mount securely according to the frame and lamp instructions. Route cables without pinching them or loading the connector.
  2. Aim at the graphic and inspect the top, middle, lower edge and seams.
  3. Check reflections from the aisle and seating positions. Change position or aim if a shiny surface reflects the lamp into viewers’ eyes.
  4. Test neighbouring fixtures together and record the final spacing and angle for repeat installations.

The panel spotlight’s colour temperature is fixed at order: 3000–3500K, 4200–4700K or 6500–6700K. Test the chosen version on the real print. Keep each fixture with its specified power supply; matching connector shapes do not establish electrical compatibility. For linkable models, follow the specific model’s limits and the lowest-rated cable, connector and circuit.
