Color Temperature Guide for Exhibition Lighting

Color temperature describes the overall appearance of white light, from warm to neutral to cool. It is measured in kelvin (K), but it does not describe fixture heat and it does not, by itself, tell you whether colors will be rendered accurately.

Practical CCT Ranges

Approximate range Typical appearance Useful starting point

These are visual tendencies, not industry rules. Products, printed graphics, fabric transmission and surrounding hall light can change the result.

CCT and CRI Measure Different Things

CCT describes whether the light appears warm or cool. CRI and other color-rendering measures describe how the source reproduces colors compared with a reference. A fixture can have the preferred CCT and still render some colors poorly. Compare both the stated specifications and the real product under the actual light.

Fabric Graphics and SEG Lightboxes

Fabric dyes, print processes and diffuser materials can respond differently under different spectra. Warm light may add a yellow cast; cool light can make whites look crisp while changing warm brand colors. Neutral white is often a practical test point, but the best match is the one verified with the final printed graphic. For internally illuminated graphics, module spacing, lightbox depth and fabric transmission affect uniformity as much as CCT.

Avoid Mixed Color Temperatures

Visible warm and cool patches across one graphic usually look inconsistent. Use the same selected CCT across fixtures illuminating the same surface. Tri-CCT products provide flexibility during setup, but all lights on one zone should be switched to the same setting after testing.

How to Choose

  1. Identify the products, graphics and materials that are most color-sensitive.
  2. Compare available CCT settings with venue ambient lighting present.
  3. Check CRI and any additional color-rendering data for the exact model.
  4. View the booth from visitor distance and inspect it in person.
  5. Record the chosen setting so replacement fixtures and future shows remain consistent.
