Backdrop Light — LED Lights for Trade Show Backdrops & Fabric Displays
Backdrop Light
A backdrop light for trade shows is a wide-angle LED fixture designed to illuminate fabric backdrops, tension fabric displays, and step-and-repeat banners with even, hotspot-free light. The primary technical challenge of backdrop lighting is achieving uniform brightness across the entire surface — a problem that spotlights and narrow-beam arm lights cannot solve.
The Hotspot Problem
When a narrow-beam light hits a fabric backdrop, it creates a bright center circle that fades to dark at the edges. This is called a hotspot. On a printed graphic backdrop, hotspots wash out the center of the image and leave the edges underexposed — making the graphic look unprofessional in person and in photos. A wide-angle backdrop light (90–120° beam) distributes light evenly across the surface, eliminating hotspots.
Mounting Positions for Backdrop Lighting
Top-down mounting: Clamp the backdrop light to the top rail of your display frame and angle it down at 30–45°. This is the most common approach and works for backdrops up to 2.5 m tall.
Floor-up mounting: For very tall backdrops (3 m+) or when top-rail mounting is not possible, floor-mounted uplights can supplement top-down lighting to eliminate dark areas at the bottom of the graphic.
Side mounting: For narrow backdrops or step-and-repeat banners, side-mounted lights at 45° provide even coverage without the fixture appearing in front-facing photos.
Fabric Compatibility
BOOTH LIGHTS backdrop lights are safe for all common trade show fabric types: dye-sublimation polyester, tension fabric, stretch fabric, and non-woven fabric backdrops. Surface temperature at the LED head is under 45°C, producing no radiant heat damage at distances of 20 cm or more.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many backdrop lights do I need for a 10-foot wide backdrop?
One 120° backdrop light centered on the top rail covers a 10-foot (3 m) backdrop when mounted 1.2–1.5 m from the surface. For brighter output or more even coverage on a wide backdrop, use two lights spaced at one-third and two-thirds of the width.
Can I use backdrop lights on a step-and-repeat banner?
Yes. Step-and-repeat banners are typically 8–10 feet wide and benefit from the same even-wash approach. Mount one or two backdrop lights on the banner stand crossbar or on a separate stand positioned above and in front of the banner.
What color temperature is best for a fabric backdrop?
4000 K (neutral white) is the most versatile choice for printed fabric backdrops, as it renders colors accurately without the yellow cast of 3000 K or the blue cast of 5000 K. For backdrops with warm brand colors, 3000 K enhances reds and oranges.
Are backdrop lights the same as floodlights?
Functionally yes — backdrop lights are a category of floodlight optimized for fabric display illumination. The key characteristics are wide beam angle, low heat output, and lightweight construction for frame mounting.
